Residential Contractor Licensing Description
A “residential contractor” means a contractor whose services are limited to construction, remodeling, repair, or improvement of one-family, two-family, or three-family residences which are not more than two stories and the “accessory use structures” in connection with these buildings. An accessory use structure would be a garage, guest house, garden shed, or other outbuilding. To obtain a Florida Residential Contractor license the candidate must, in addition to passing the Business and Finance Exam, pass two additional trade exams; Contract administration which is 50 questions to be completed in 4.5 hours and Project Management which is also 50 questions and to be completed in 4.5 hours.
The General, Building and Residential Contractor exam prep course is the same for all three exams. The manuals are the same, the exam questions are very similar, with a possible emphasis on more commercial questions on the General or Builder, but all of the information in all of the reference manuals for all three exams is fair game. All of the exam prep schools that I am aware of teach them as one course.
